STUDENT PROJECTS

I have chosen to show the projects that showcase the best of my abilities.

Centro De Justicia.jpg

Centro de Justicia is a non-profit organization that provides resources to immigrants who are experiencing difficulties with their legal status. This center provides services such as healthcare, mental health, and financial assistance to those in need. This population is often in need of housing, food, and clothing. Color theory, biophilia, and workplace design play a huge role in the layout of this center. Four main colors were chosen to represent the Latino community; green, white, red, and blue. Blue signifies justice; white implies fairness and equality; green symbolizes growth, harmony, and freshness; red represents strength, power, and determination. Biophilic design is a central focus of the interior of the organization. Biophilia in the workplace can promote the well being of the employees as well as the clients. Workplace design can have a more positive impact on employees. By bringing nature into the space, immigrants visiting the center perceive a restorative and liberating experience helping to ease their distress and indignation. Workplace design through strategies such as coworking, quiet spaces, and flex space offers more balance and productivity, impacting the employees’ positively.

The goal of this grocery store is to provide a healthy and inviting atmosphere for everyone who comes in. Health and wellness is a very important part of every community, and this grocery store helps to support just that. From construction to the products on the shelves, this grocery store will be sustainable and help the environment. Our grocery store is two stories, which will elevate the design and allow for more space to be utilized up top. This upstairs space creates a separation from the hustle and bustle of a grocery store, as well as providing practical aspects like the employee break room, and a restaurant where locals can come enjoy a nice meal. The overall objective of this grocery store is to provide locally sourced products and create an experience through design that the community will remember.

Golden Memories Adult Home is a memory care facility that assists residents who have dementia. The design in this home accommodates their special needs. The color scheme chosen for the living area uses warm tones allowing the residents to feel in a  friendly environment. The furniture in this space provides an easy way to sit and stand up from. Laminate wood flooring makes for easy clean up and a recessed rug provides noise reduction. A bay window provides an extra seating area and view of the outdoors. Each room door has been designed for a specific person with mementos that help them remember where their room is.

Fresno Relief Center.jpg

The RC | Relief Center is a safe space for the homeless community to come in and utilize the resources that we offer. This center is open 24/7 and includes the following amenities, private restrooms, private shower rooms, laundry room, pet showers, lounging area, and an outdoor courtyard. The purpose of this center is for the homeless to be able to take advantage of our resources and feel no shame. The simple color scheme of white and gray creates a clean feeling in this center. The staff here are friendly and are prepared to welcome anyone who comes in.

The Forestiere Underground Gardens is a Fresno Landmark. Because it is historical, preservation is an important part of this design. The reception area has base cabinets with a countertop. The waiting area has three chairs and a triangle table in the middle of it, following the trinity design concept in the gardens. The gift shop area has two folding tables with shelving on top and a four sided kiosk to display more items. The history area has three display easels and a table in the middle. There is also a clothing rack to display t-shirts. The floor and the ceiling are preserved. The ceiling has a natural wood finish and the floor has a grey finish to keep the concrete look.
